The Ends Do Not Justify The Means

There is little doubt that we will win this war and little doubt that all the protests will have any useful effect. Bush has his agenda and the rest of the world be damned - literally. What makes this whole ordeal so insanely painful is that Bush is using the same justification for his actions as terrorists. He has reduced himself and us down to their level. Terrorists act to make a statement, to try to bring about change, to interrupt normal procedures. In doing so their actions - immoral as they are - are conveniently justified by the supposed end result. That's why the 9/11 terrorists could shave, could live as Americans, could act in ways that are forbidden by their religion. Their actions were forgiven in the name of the greater effort.

And Bush has followed the same logic. Yes, we will win in Iraq. And somehow that justifies the lies, illegal maneuverings and shady deals (past, present, and forthcoming), and actions. Many Iraqis view us a great an evil as we view Hussein, and both sides are correct. So much for morality. So much for God's glory.

To make things even worse, when this is all over, we'll have to suffer through the arrogance and pomposity of those who supported Bush and the War. They'll gloss over the lies. They'll be too busy acting as if they own the world. They'll be so happy that "WE WON!!" and, of course, have a moment of silence for those giving the ultimate sacrifice. If just doesn't sink in that war should be the absolute last resort, not a quick fix. And if soldiers, civilians, or tag-along reporters get killed, that's part of war. You can lament but place the blame squarely on yourself. Your support sent them to war and to face the risks.

To easy to predict but Hussein will likely not get caught tor killed. Bush will still count the regime change as a victory. But it's not! Remember this is all about terrorism. If Bush doesn['t get Hussein and bin Laden then all this fighting and invasion crap wasn't about terrorism at all but something else. For Bush to have any semblance of integrity left he has to get Hussein and bin Laden. One's a supporter of terrorism; the other the head of a known terrorist group. Right Georgie? Or is this another packet of lies?
